Thousands Of Smiles And Tears At San Diego Harbor Today

Thousands of crew members of the USS Carl Vinson Aircraft Carrier will return to San Diego Thursday morning.

The ship will be arriving at Naval Base Coronado after spending an extend nine month deployment in the Indo-Pacific and then in the Middle East as part of an increased U.S. naval presence.

The carrier is the flag ship of a strike group that includes several San Diego warships, including the destroyers USS Princeton and USS Sterett. Both those ships have recently returned to San Diego.

In 2011 the body of Osama Bin Laden was buried at sea from the deck of the Vinson.
