It's Joe Perry's Birthday!

It's Joe Perry's Birthday!

In the 60s, Perry got into the business by forming The Jam Band with Tom Hamilton. Later, they would add Steven Tyler, Brad Whitford and Joey Kramer and change the name to Aerosmith. The band would hit big in the 70's off the hit album "Toys in the Attic", and the string of hit singles that became "Dream On", "Same Old Song and Dance", "Sweet Emotion", "Walk This Way", "Back in the Saddle", and "Last Child". Perry and Tyler became known as the "Toxic Twins," as they partied and abused drugs on a high level, which would burn the band out by the end of the 70's.

In the early 80's Perry would break after, as tensions came to a head and Joe would leave with his music to create the Joe Perry Project. He would release two albums with moderate success, as Aerosmith continued on without him. Both his band and Aerosmith would muddle through the early 80's, so in 1984, Perry would rejoin Aerosmith, and sign a new record deal with Geffen Records. Joe and Steven Tyler would collaborate with Run-D.M.C. in a remake of their 75 hit "Walk This Way", and Aerosmith would break themselves and Hip-Hop into the mainstream.

The band would cement their comeback with the multi-platinum Permanent Vacation, which would lead to a new string of hit albums in "Pump" in 89, and "Get a Grip" in 1993. The band would dominate with the hit singles ("Dude (Looks Like a Lady)", "Angel", "Rag Doll", "Love in an Elevator", "Janie's Got a Gun", "What it Takes", "The Other Side", "Livin' on the Edge", "Cryin'", "Amazing", and "Crazy" combined with some of the biggest music videos of the time to go with the songs. By the end of the 90's the band released their bestselling book Walk This Way: The Autobiography of Aerosmith and hit #1 for the first time on the Hot 100 with "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing", which appeared on the soundtrack to the film Armageddon.

Joe Perry's music career is historic to say the least and his guitar style has been the cornerstone of blues guitar in Hard Rock. There are few songwriters in the world on par with the success of Tyler & Perry, making them one of the biggest songwriting duos in rock history.

Happy Birthday Joe, you are an absolute God of Rock!
