Physical Graffiti is the sixth and arguably greatest album by Led Zeppelin, as the double album was released in 1975, under their new label Swan Song Records. Originally Zep recorded eight songs at Headley Grange, a country house in Hampshire, which allowed time to improvise and experiment, which lead to a total playing time just under three sides of an LP, so they expand it into a double album, adding seven unreleased tracks from Led Zeppelin III, Led Zeppelin IV, and Houses of the Holy.
Commercially and critically successful, it debuted at number three in the U.S., and was certified 16× platinum shipping over eight million copies. One can argue that Physical Graffiti is just as classic as Led Zeppelin II & IV, both of which are known to have some of the biggest classics in the band’s run, but Physical Graffiti may have one of the most beloved songs in their history with Kashmir.
