The Day The Who Introduced Us To The New Boss

By 1970 The Beatles were no more and the rock world was looking to see who would be the next band to sit on the throne as the biggest band in the world, and in 1971 the biggest bands from the UK came with a force. The Stones hit big with “Sticky Fingers”, and Zep dominated with Led Zeppelin IV, but The Who wanted everyone to know who the boss is when they released “Who's Next”!

The follow-up to 1969’s Tommy, was a salvage from what was to be another concept album, as eight of the nine songs on the album came from what that project was to be. Best known for the singles "Won't Get Fooled Again" and "Baba O'Riley", which are two of their most classic songs, the iconic cover of the album was a photo was shot by Ethan Russell who was referencing the monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The album was a massive hit critically and commercially, as it is revered as one of the greatest albums of all time that gave us one of the greatest lyrics of all time “Meet the new boss, Same as the old boss”, as Pete Townshend was influenced by the incident between himself and Abbie Hoffman at Woodstock, as he thought that hippies taking over the government positions would be no better than the government itself.
