Mt. Helix Easter Sunrise Service Set for Sunday

The second longest running Easter sunrise service in the U.S. takes place Sunday, April 20, at Mt Helix Park. This year, the service will be produced by Legacy Church of La Mesa and Pastor Thomas Lengyel. Every year, a different church handles the historic production.

Easter Sunday, 1917, began the reign of Mt. Helix, holding the second-longest Sunrise Easter Service. On April 12, 1925, the first Sunrise Easter Service in the new amphitheater was held. The event this year celebrates 100 years in the historic nature theatre at the top of Mt. Helix.

Shuttles will start from Grossmont High at 5 a.m. Service starts at 6:30 a.m., but you will want to allow plenty of time for the shuttle ride. It is a transformative experience to arrive at the Park as the night stars fade into the light of the sun coming over the mountain, so get there early.
