The FAA says engine trouble forced the pilot of a light airplane to make an emergency landing on the southbound I-805 in University City over the weekend.
The plane touched down safely on the southbound side of the freeway near Carroll Canyon Road at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday and rolled to a stop facing sideways up against a center divide.
The pilot and a passenger aboard the aircraft were unhurt, said a preliminary summary of the incident by the federal agency. The pilot landed the plane on the freeway after it began having “engine issues,” according to the FAA.
No one was injured on the ground and no vehicles were damaged.
The crash left the southbound side of the interstate fully blocked in the area for a time; it was finally fully reopened at about 9 p.m. Saturday.
